vivo is doubling down on mobile photography innovation with its upcoming flagship, the vivo X200 Ultra, set to launch on April 21 in China. The brand has already teased a pro-level photography kit for the device, and now, new details reveal that the X200 Ultra will also support a Zeiss co-engineered add-on zoom lens, further enhancing its camera prowess.

A Mobile Zoom Revolution: 200mm Equivalent Lens

According to vivo product manager Han Boxiao, the new lens is designed to attach over the X200 Ultra’s 200MP periscope zoom lens using a custom adapter integrated into the photography kit. The add-on lens is built with an advanced 13-piece glass element construction, enabling it to expand the native 3.7x optical zoom to a remarkable 8.7x optical zoom, with support for up to 70x hybrid zoom.

  • Aperture: f/2.3

  • Focal Length Equivalent: 200mm

  • Hybrid Zoom: Up to 70x

  • Highly usable quality: Up to 800mm focal length (approx. 35x zoom)

  • Maximum zoom range: 1600mm equivalent

This level of optical and hybrid zoom is unprecedented in a smartphone, and the sample images shared suggest high detail retention even at long focal lengths, pointing toward a potentially game-changing setup for mobile photography enthusiasts and content creators.

vivo X200 Ultra + Zeiss: A Camera Powerhouse

The new add-on accessory is part of vivo’s extended collaboration with Zeiss, a partnership that has already delivered premium optical technology to past vivo flagships. With this new add-on, the X200 Ultra becomes not just a smartphone, but a modular photography tool, aiming to appeal to serious photographers and hybrid shooters looking to replace or complement their mirrorless cameras.

Sample shots released with the announcement show impressive zoom clarity, with wildlife and architecture photos revealing strong detail and minimal distortion even at long zoom ranges.

Pricing and Availability

vivo has not yet revealed the price or availability of the add-on zoom lens. It’s also unclear if the accessory will launch globally or remain exclusive to China initially. However, given the growing interest in mobile photography accessories, it could become a highly sought-after add-on for the X200 Ultra.

With the April 21 launch approaching, more details are expected soon, including full camera specs and pricing for both the device and its optional photography accessories.
