Uncontrolled SUV Plows Through Crowd in Jaipur, Leaving Two Dead and Seven Injured

Jaipur, India April 8, 2025: A tragic incident unfolded late Monday night in Jaipur, Rajasthan, when a speeding SUV lost control and plowed through a crowd, killing two people and injuring seven others. The shocking event caused widespread panic in the city and has sparked public outrage.

7 km Trail of Chaos in Jaipur’s Crowded Streets

According to Jaipur Police, the accident began around 9:30 PM when a Toyota SUV driven by 62-year-old Usman Khan went out of control on the bustling M.I. Road. The vehicle struck multiple scooters and pedestrians over a stretch of approximately 7 kilometers, including narrow lanes near Nahargarh, where most of the impact was concentrated.

Addl. DCP (North) Bajrang Singh Shekhawat confirmed that the suspect hit several vehicles and people, including outside Santosh Mata Temple. The driver then continued recklessly through the area, damaging more vehicles near the police station before finally being stopped.

Victims Identified, Driver Found Intoxicated

Authorities reported that nine people were seriously injured, and two — Mamta Kanwar (50) and Awadhesh Parikh (37) — were declared dead at SMS Hospital. Among the injured are Veerendra Singh (48), Deepika Saini (17), Monesh Soni (28), and several others. The victims include men and women ranging in age from teenagers to senior citizens.

Medical tests revealed that the driver, Usman Khan, was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident. He is a local factory owner based in Shastri Nagar and runs a business in the Vishwakarma Industrial Area.

High Tension in the City as Leaders React

The fatal accident triggered public outrage, prompting the deployment of heavy police forces across four police station areas in Jaipur, especially in and around Nahargarh. Local MP Manju Sharma and MLA Amin Kagzi visited the scene and the hospital to meet with the injured and express condolences.

Law enforcement has launched a formal investigation and detained the suspect. Meanwhile, public demand for stricter enforcement of DUI laws and improved traffic monitoring has intensified.
