Nationwide Bank Closures to Begin This Weekend; Customers Advised to Plan Banking Needs in Advance
As India enters the second weekend of April 2025, multiple states across the country are gearing up for an extended period of bank holidays, affecting both public and private sector banks. Starting from Saturday, April 12, through Monday, April 14, banks will remain shut in many regions due to scheduled holidays and regional festivals.
This is part of a wider calendar of eight bank holidays across India this month, including weekends and state-specific observances. Here’s what customers need to know to avoid last-minute disruptions in banking services.
Three-Day Continuous Bank Closure from April 12–14Banking services will be impacted nationwide over a three-day stretch beginning this weekend:

April 12 (Saturday): Observance of the second Saturday, a mandatory closure for all Indian banks.

April 13 (Sunday): Standard weekend holiday, banks will remain closed.

April 14 (Monday): Marking Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Jayanti, several Indian states including Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Assam will observe state-specific holidays like Vishu, Tamil New Year, and Bohag Bihu. Banks in these regions will not operate.
However, states such as Delhi, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Chandigarh, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Nagaland, and Himachal Pradesh are expected to have normal banking operations on April 14.

April 15: Banks closed in West Bengal, Arunachal Pradesh, and Himachal Pradesh for Bengali New Year and Bohag Bihu celebrations.

April 29: Banks in Himachal Pradesh will remain shut in observance of Parshuram Jayanti.

April 30: All banks in Karnataka will be closed for Basava Jayanti, a major regional festival.
Customers are advised to check the Reserve Bank of India’s regional holiday schedule or consult local bank branches for state-specific closures.
Online Banking Remains Unaffected During Bank ClosuresDespite physical branches being closed, digital banking services will remain fully operational. Customers can still:

Transfer funds via NEFT, IMPS, and UPI

Withdraw cash from ATMs

Manage accounts via mobile and internet banking platforms

Pay bills, schedule auto-payments, and check balances remotely
It is recommended to complete any in-person banking tasks before the holiday dates to avoid inconvenience.
