JAIPUR, April 12, 2025 Unseasonal rainfall returned to Jaipur late Friday evening, as weather patterns continue to shift rapidly across India. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued alerts for multiple states, warning of potential heavy rainfall and thunderstorms over the next 72 hours.
Unstable Weather Grips Jaipur and Eastern RajasthanJaipur experienced a sudden spell of rain and thunderstorms late on April 12, marking a shift in the city’s weather pattern that had previously turned dry. IMD officials confirmed light rainfall accompanied by thunder at several locations in the past 24 hours. The weather department has predicted intense storms and rainfall in eastern Rajasthan, including Jaipur, Bharatpur, Ajmer, and Kota divisions during the afternoon hours of April 12.
However, conditions are expected to change from April 13 onwards, with dry weather likely to prevail and daytime temperatures rising. A fresh spell of intense heat is expected to grip western Rajasthan starting April 14.
Heatwave Warnings Issued for Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Northern StatesThe IMD has forecasted a significant rise in temperatures across northwest India, particularly in western Rajasthan, Gujarat, Haryana, Punjab, Delhi, and parts of western Madhya Pradesh. From April 15, these regions may experience heatwave conditions, with western Rajasthan facing a severe heatwave warning between April 16 and 18.
Officials have advised residents to take necessary precautions as temperatures soar and dry conditions return. The rapid switch from storms to extreme heat poses added risk, particularly for vulnerable populations.
Rain Forecast for Southern States: Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Telangana on AlertWhile northwestern India braces for intense heat, the southern part of the country will continue to experience active weather systems. Light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms, is expected in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Karnataka, and parts of Andhra Pradesh over the next three to five days.
Many regions in Kerala and Tamil Nadu have already recorded heavy rainfall, and the IMD warns that this pattern is likely to persist, potentially disrupting travel and daily life in affected areas.
