BSNL Slashes Validity of Rs 2,399 and Rs 1,499 Prepaid Plans by 30 Days

In a move that has surprised many of its subscribers, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has announced a validity cut on two of its most popular prepaid plans Rs 2,399 and Rs 1,499. Although all existing data, SMS, and calling benefits remain intact, the number of valid service days has been reduced without any change in pricing, which has sparked disappointment among long-term users.

BSNL Rs 2,399 Plan Validity Now 395 Days (Down from 425 Days)

Once considered a value-packed long-term plan, the ₹2,399 plan earlier offered 425 days of validity. Now, BSNL has trimmed it to 395 days.

Plan Benefits:

  • image 100 SMS/Day

  • image Unlimited Voice Calling

  • image No changes in benefits, only validity reduced by 30 days

Despite the cut, it still remains one of the longest-validity plans available in this price range among telecom providers in India.

BSNL Rs 1,499 Plan Validity Now 336 Days (Down from 365 Days)

This plan, popular among non-heavy data users, has also seen a validity reduction.

Updated Plan Details:

  • image 100 SMS/Day

  • image Unlimited Calls

  • image Validity cut from 365 to 336 days

  • image No new benefits added

This change might impact users who rely on the plan for light data usage and year-long service without monthly recharges.

Why the Cut?

While BSNL hasn’t officially stated the reason, industry experts suggest:

  • Rising network costs

  • Upcoming 4G rollout investments

  • Effort to align pricing with operational costs.

BSNL 4G Rollout Update 1 Lakh Sites by June 2025

To improve its services and compete with private players, BSNL has initiated a massive 4G expansion:

  • image Target: Energize 1 lakh 4G towers across India

  • image Focus: Urban + rural connectivity

  • image Goal: Deliver high-speed data access and enhance call quality

The move is expected to modernize BSNL’s service offerings, especially in underserved regions.

Final Thoughts

While BSNL still offers competitive prepaid benefits, the validity reduction has left many subscribers disheartened. That said, with the upcoming nationwide 4G rollout, users may still find long-term value, especially if network performance improves significantly in 2025.
