Nagpur: The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) issued a yellow alert for Nagpur as a heatwave is likely to sweep across isolated places in the district on Wednesday. The mercury was expected to touch 42 degrees Celsius. Nagpur recorded a maximum temperature of 40.8 degrees Celsius with heatwave-like conditions across the region on Tuesday.
Citizens felt much discomfort as the temperature remained above 40 degrees Celsius for the third consecutive day. An appreciable rise in night temperatures was also recorded, with no respite from warm weather even during the early morning hours. Nagpur's morning temperature was 23.3 degrees Celsius.
Akola continued to be the hottest place in the state at 44.1 degrees Celsius, though the mercury was down by a fraction. A heatwave roiled the district, which has been facing the highest maximum temperature in Vidarbha since Sunday.
The temperatures shot up in Amravati too, which made it yet another day that it was the second hottest place in Vidarbha at 43 degrees Celsius. An appreciable increase in maximum temperatures of Chandrapur (42.6) and Washim (42) was also recorded.
However, gusty winds and thunderstorms hit certain parts of Vidarbha, including Gadchiroli, Wardha, and Chandrapur. A trough runs from West Rajasthan to West Vidarbha, which is likely to bring some light rains to the region.
Gondia and Bhandara got some relief as the temperature fell below 40 degrees Celsius.
