Bengaluru: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has restricted firecracker bursting in the city to a two-hour window from 8 PM to 10 PM on Diwali, warning of strict penalties and enforcement measures for those who violate the rule by bursting crackers after 10 PM.

Speaking to reporters, BBMP Commissioner Tushar Giri Nath stated that firecrackers would only be permitted within the BBMP jurisdiction from October 31 to November 2. Those found bursting crackers past 10 PM will face strict action by both police and municipal staff, in line with guidelines issued by the Supreme Court to regulate the sale and use of firecrackers.

The Commissioner urged residents to respect these regulations and avoid any rule-breaking.

According to guidelines set by the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board and the Supreme Court, firecrackers may be burst only between 8 PM and 10 PM during the specified days, with any other times strictly prohibited. Additionally, only green firecrackers are allowed for sale and use; all other types are restricted. Information regarding green firecrackers can be found on the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board’s website.

Severe consequences, including criminal charges and warehouse seizures, have been announced for those found storing or selling banned firecrackers. The BBMP urges the public to celebrate Diwali in an eco-friendly manner, strictly limiting their celebrations to green firecrackers.
