Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar reaffirmed the Congress government’s commitment to farmer welfare, emphasizing that channeling Ganga water to farmlands and ensuring a prosperous life for farmers is a key objective of the administration.
Speaking at a foundation stone-laying and inauguration ceremony for various infrastructure development works held at Nehru Stadium in Bidar on Wednesday, April 16, Shivakumar highlighted major allocations made in the current year’s state budget.
He stated that the government has earmarked ₹22,000 crore for the Irrigation Department, out of which ₹1,324 crore has been allocated for regional projects including the Mehakari Lift Irrigation Project and plans to replenish 36 lakes in Aurad taluk.
Reiterating the government’s focus on public welfare, he said, “Drinking water, shelter, food for the hungry, and education for all—these are the pillars of our governance.” He also pointed out the successful implementation of the five guarantee schemes promised ahead of the last elections.
Highlighting regional inclusivity, Shivakumar said that the Congress has given special attention to the Kalyana Karnataka (371J) region, with an annual allocation of ₹5,000 crore for its development.
Calling it a historic day for Bidar, the Deputy CM announced that infrastructure development projects worth ₹2,025 crore have been launched. He assured that these efforts would transform the border district and give it a new identity.
He also said, “Power is temporary, achievements are eternal, and the voter is divine. Our government is committed to repaying the people’s trust with good governance.”
The event was attended by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, several ministers, MLAs, and senior officials.
Commenting on the region’s political landscape, Shivakumar noted that although the Congress lost four seats in Bidar during the last Assembly elections, both winning MLAs were given ministerial positions. He expressed confidence that the people of Karnataka will continue to support the Congress with a clear majority in future elections, owing to its pro-people governance.
