A few days ago, a video from France went viral, showing a French farmer sitting in a tractor that is circling a farm in Hautes-Vosges and dispersing the travellers using manure. But the truth is now out, and the reason is quite legitimate.
The videographer, Loic Madre, informed the Daily Mail that travellers had illegally occupied the meadow. The land was intended for an upcoming harvest, with the grass meant for animal feed.
'It was difficult to negotiate with the travellers; they refused to listen. The farmers received no support from the local authorities or the police,' Madre said.
"So they handled it on their own! As you can see in the images."
The footage shows numerous white caravans and vehicles, including a red Ferrari, stationed at the field's edge. Travellers chase after the tractors spreading the substance, with one briefly managing to grasp the vehicle's side while shouting angrily.
The incident, occurring on July 8, shows the farmers' attempts succeeding as the protestors fail to maintain their position.
French media reported that farmers acted independently after receiving no police assistance regarding the 'illegal gypsy camp'.
The farmers employed liquid manure (slurry), a water-manure mixture, to create unbearable conditions for the occupants.
'As a result, there were several problems and complaints, but in the end, the travellers were forced to leave after a few days,' the cameraman said.
"The meadow was badly damaged, but they left."
This event reflects broader European farmer concerns about land trespassing.
