NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday targetted the opposition in Maharashtra, emphasising that effective governance can only be delivered by the BJP-led Mahayuti government.
Speaking at a rally in Dhule, the Prime Minister criticised the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance, accusing it of lacking unity and strong leadership.
"Maha Vikas Aghadi is a vehicle that has no wheels and brakes, and everyone there is fighting to sit on the driver's seat," he remarked.
"Whenever I have asked for something from Maharashtra, people of the state have given me their blessings wholeheartedly." He pledged to maintain the development momentum of recent years, stating, "Only the BJP-led Mahayuti government can provide the good governance that Maharashtra needs," the Prime Minister said.
Without naming anyone, PM Modi accused opposition leaders of insulting women and said that no mother or sister in Maharashtra can ever forgive these actions of the alliance members.
Discussing the Majhi Ladki Bahan Yojana , a state initiative for women’s welfare, Modi accused the opposition of attempting to undermine it.
“The opposition is trying everything to stop the Majhi Ladki Bahan Yojana. Congress ecosystem members have reached the courts against this scheme. They want to discontinue this scheme as soon as they come to power,” he warned, urging women to stay vigilant regarding the MVA’s stance on gender equality.
PM Modi concluded by noting that offensive remarks by opposition members toward women were being closely observed by the state and the nation, adding that these actions reflect the opposition's attitude toward women’s rights.
PM Modi also stressed the importance of women’s empowerment for a "Viksit Maharashtra" and "Viksit Bharat" (Developed India). “It is very important to empower our women and make their lives easier for a 'Viksit Maharashtra' and Viksit Bharat. The society progresses rapidly when women progress,” he stated, commending the Mahayuti government in Maharashtra for aligning with the Centre’s vision for women’s advancement.
