NEW DELHI: NCP functionary Nawab Malik 's son-in-law Sameer Khan passed away at Criticare Hospital on Sunday. Khan was hospitalised after an incident on September 18, where he sustained severe injuries including a brain clot and multiple fractures to his ribs, shoulder, and neck.
Khan suffered a brain clot after his driver crashed into him with his SUV outside a Kurla hospital, pushing him for about 10-15ft and pinning him between the vehicle and the boundary wall of an SRA building.
The incident occurred when Khan and his wife, Nilofar, visited the hospital for a routine medical check-up. While waiting for their vehicle, the driver, Abdul Ansari , told police he accidentally hit the accelerator instead of the brakes, causing him to knock over several parked bikes before crashing into Khan.
Sharing a post on X, Malik said, "As we mourn this loss, all my schedule for the next two days are postponed. Thank you for your understanding. Pl keep him in your prayers."
Vinobha Bhave Nagar police station had registered a case against Ansari for rash driving and negligence, and negligent acts that endanger human life or personal safety under BNS.
"We have given a notice of arrest to the driver. Ansari has been working for the family for quite some time. We have collected his blood samples to rule out any possibility of alcohol consumption. We are in the process of recording his statement to know what could have caused the accident. We are also calling for car experts to understand what could have gone wrong," the police officer had earlier said.
