Rahul Gandhi congratulates Donald Trump on election win, wishes Kamala Harris 'all the best'

NEW DELHI: The Congress party on Wednesday congratulated Donald Trump on his victory in the United States presidential election. The grand old party chief Mallikarjun Kharge expressed optimism about working closely with the US to promote global peace and prosperity .

Leader of opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, also extended his congratulations message to Trump and wished him success in his second term.

"Congratulations on your victory, @realDonaldTrump! Wishing you success in your second term as US President. All the best to @KamalaHarris in her future endeavors," Gandhi posted on X.


Republican Trump has won the US presidency to return for his second stint, marking one of the most remarkable political comeback in American history by defeating his Democratic rival Kamala Harris.

In a post on X, Kharge said, "On behalf of the Indian National Congress , we extend our congratulations and best wishes to President @realDonaldTrump for his election victory."


Kharge emphasised the robust comprehensive global strategic partnership between India and the United States, which is built on shared democratic values, aligned interests, and extensive people-to-people connections. "We look forward to working closely with the United States for global peace and prosperity," he said.

As results continued to come in, indicating a comfortable victory for Trump, the 78-year-old Republican leader addressed his supporters at West Palm Beach in Florida, declaring victory and promising a "golden age of America."

According to races called by the Associated Press up to 7pm IST, Trump had secured 277 electoral votes compared to 224 for Democratic candidate Harris, leaving him just three votes short of the required majority for victory.
