HYDERABAD:Aurobindo Pharmasaid the flagship Penicillin-G facility of its wholly owned step-down subsidiary, Lyfius Pharma Pvt Ltd , at Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually on Tuesday.
The facility has been set up at an investment of Rs 2,500 crore under the Indian govt’s production linked incentive (PLI) scheme in a bid to cut dependence on China and boost self-reliance in pharmaceuticals with an eye on strengthening domestic manufacturing capabilities in critical key starting materials (KSMs), drug intermediates (Dis) and active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs).
The plant, which has been set up with an annual production capacity of 15,000 metric tonnes per annum, will manufacture Pen-G for domestic as well as international markets. Aurobindo said the plant is one of the largest fermentation-based antibiotic intermediates facilities in India and is equipped with high volume fermenters and automated starch and glucose plant.
The company said it plans to ramp up commercial production in FY25 and boost domestic production of critical KSMs, DIs and APIs.
