NEW DELHI: Amritsar police dismantled a cross-border arms and narcotics smuggling network with links to Pakistan .
Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav shared details on Saturday in a post on X: “In an intelligence-led operation, Counter Intelligence Amritsar busts a cross-border arms & narcotics smuggling module with links to Pakistan & apprehends two operatives,” he wrote.
The accused were identified as Gurjant Singh and Gurvel Singh, both residents of Tarn Taran. Authorities also recovered 2.5 kg of heroin and five sophisticated pistols along with magazines.
He added that preliminary investigations revealed the arrested accused were acting under the directions of a Pakistan-based smuggler to transport contraband across the border. The recovered arms were intended to be supplied to gangsters and criminals to fuel unlawful activities in Punjab.
An FIR has been registered at PS SSOC, Amritsar. Further investigations are underway to expose the full nexus, including the backward and forward linkages of the network.
This follows a similar operation on October 2, when Amritsar police arrested five operatives, including a juvenile, and recovered 1.5 kg of heroin and several pistols from another Pakistan-linked smuggling network, police commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar had informed.
