NEW DELHI: The Indian Army killed two more terrorists on Tuesday morning following a counter-terror operation in Jammu 's Akhnoor sector, bringing the total to three in the 27-hour-long encounter. The gunfight began on Monday after terrorists fired at an Army convoy near the Assan temple in Sunderbani.

Following an immediate response, security forces eliminated one terrorist on Monday and recovered a weapon. Believing two others to be hiding nearby, the Army launched a large-scale search operation, deploying BMP-2 infantry combat vehicles and ramping up patrols.

Meanwhile, White Knight Corps in a X post confirmed the elimination of three terrorrits and said, "After round-the-clock surveillance throughout the night, an intense firefight unfolded today morning resulting in a significant victory for our forces. Relentless operations and tactical excellence have led to the elimination of three terrorists. The operation also saw the successful recovery of war-like stores, marking a critical step in maintaining security in the region."

The area, close to the Pakistan border , remains cordoned off as troops work to secure it further.

The encounter began around 7:25 am on Monday near the Shivassan temple in Battal’s Jogwan region. Reports from locals indicated heavily armed terrorists were in the Assan temple area in Khour’s Bhattal region, prompting a prompt search by Army and police forces.

Earlier in the day, gunfire was heard as an Army ambulance passed through a nearby village, leading security forces to cordon off the area in an effort to locate and neutralise the infiltrators.
