Deandre Ayton has played 398 NBA games, per the NBA’s data. He was a Phoenix Suns starter from 2018 to 2023. In 2022, reports came out about his disagreement with the Suns' coach, Monty Williams, after his court time was reduced to 17 minutes in Game 7 of the Playoffs. In 2023, he was traded to Portland. The 7 starter continued playing at the same position with Portland in the 2024-2025 season before becoming a free agent.
Talking about the acquisition of Ayton to the NBA, Lakers President of Basketball Operations and General Manager Rob Pelinka earlier said:
“Acquiring a starting-caliber center was the top priority for us this offseason, and we believe Deandre is an amazing solution to that objective and is an ideal player to add to our current core.”
Deandre’s size, mobility, and athleticism will allow both paint scoring and paint protection. Deandre’s playoff experience as a starter on an NBA Finals team also aligns well with our ultimate Lakers championship aspirations.”
Deandre deserves all the happiness he is feeling about the new move to the Lakers. His excitement resonated with the fans, too. They saw it as a positive development for the team.
