Caitlin Clark is heading into her second WNBA season with confidence and momentum, but a recent personal post has stirred more conversation off the court than on it.

The Indiana Fever star, fresh off a Rookie of the Year season and an All-Star game appearance, shared a heartfelt message on social media this week, celebrating her relationship with boyfriend Connor McCaffery . “Another year with my favorite person :) I’m so thankful for you,” she wrote, alongside a photo of the couple.

Clark and McCaffery met during their time at the University of Iowa , where she was dominating college basketball and he was wrapping up his own playing career. They confirmed their relationship publicly in August 2023. McCaffery is now an assistant coach at Butler University , after a brief stint with the Indiana Pacers' staff.

While many fans responded to Clark’s post with love and support, others took the opportunity to criticize McCaffery , a trend that has grown in recent months. Some of the backlash stems from his role at Butler, where the men’s basketball team has been underperforming. Superstitious fans even blamed a losing streak on Clark’s absence from the sidelines, claiming her presence once brought the team good luck. The criticism has extended to social media, where some commenters harshly suggested Clark is “out of his league.”

Despite the noise, Clark seems unfazed and focused on the upcoming season, with both her career and relationship moving forward in stride.
