Diwali 2024: Significance


As we all know that celebration of Diwali has already started in the country from the very first day of Dhanteras and now this is the second day of Diwali, which is being celebrated as Narak Chaturdashi. Diwali is one of the most prominent festivals of Hindus. This day is celebrated with great joy and zeal across the globe where Indian people resides. They illuminate the places they live in and remove the darkness.

Diwali is the festival to celebrate the victory of good over evil and triumph of light over darkness. One should also remove the darkness from inside and enlighten their mind, body and soul with the light of truth and righteousness. Diwali gives a chance to everyone to meet their loved ones and celebrate the festival of happiness by giving them gifts, sweets, decorating the house, distributing sweets to other people.

  • Laxmi Puja: The main essence of celebrating Diwali is performing Laxmi Puja on this auspicious day as it is believed that during this time period, Goddess Laxmi, the goddess of wealth and prosperity emerged from milky ocean when deities and demon where churning the ocean. So people perform various puja rituals to please the Goddess and seek blessings.

  • Victory Over Evil: The day celebrates the victory of good over evil. On this auspicious day, people illuminate their house and remove the darkness from everywhere. As we all know that on this sacred day Lord Ram returned to Ayodhya with his brother Lakshman and wife Mata Sita. Firstly, Diwali was celebrated in Ayodhya to welcome Lord Ram.

  • Remove Darkness: As the names suggests, Deepawali, which means the row of lights, festival of lighting diyas so people light up the places where they live and their offices and other work places with lights and diyas.

  • Saraswati Puja: Deepawali is also connected with the Goddess Saraswati, the Goddess of knowledge and wisdom. In some regions, people perform Saraswati Puja to seek blessings of the Goddess for enlightenment and success in academics.

  • Celebration: The festival is all about celebration and people celebrate this festival in different ways, such as celebrating it with their loved ones, do decoration, make rangolis, perform various puja rituals, visiting temple, and lighting up their house, distributing sweets and gifts. So there are various ways to celebrate Diwali.
