IPL 2025: Shreyas Iyer plots KKR's downfall

Send Push
KOLKATA: It’s getting hot and humid here, and no one is feeling the heat more than the Kolkata Knight Rid -ers (KKR). After last week’s loss to Punjab Kings , the defending cham -pions stand a chance to not only settle scores here on Saturday but also get a win to stay in the reckoning.

The match will also see former skipper Shreyas Iyer returning ‘home’, but in different colours. KKR allowing their champion captain to leave was one of the most talked-about topics before the mega auction. While the team management say it was Shreyas himself who wanted to test his market value, the batter felt his efforts didn’t get due recognition from the franchise.

The middle-order batter has since dominated. A key member of India’s title-winning Champions Trophy side, Shreyas has been part of five title wins since May 2024 when he won the IPL as KKR cap -tain. He won the 2023-24 Ranji Tro -phy, the 2024-25 Irani Cup and the 2024-25 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy crowns with Mumbai.

The ICC Player of the Month for March, he got back into BCCI’s cen -tral con -tract list too. Former West Indies pacer Ian Bishop said, “Shreyas is a good captain.

Wherever Shreyas has gone he’s made teams better.” PBKS are feeling the Shreyas effect. With coach Ricky Ponting , the duo has formed a lethal combination.

“He is definitely a very good captain. The way he makes those bowling changes, it shows that he is very involved,” Punjab’s in-form batter Nehal Wadhera said.
