CSK top-order batter Rachin Ravindra (37 off 22) and debutant Shaik Rasheed (27 off 19) gave a good start and raised a partnership of 52 runs off 29 balls.
Rasheed was dismissed by Avesh Khan early in the game. CSK made crucial runs 59/1 in the powerplay. Markram took his first wicket in this season when he trapped Rachin leg before. Earlier, LSG skipper Rishabh Pant found some form with his first fifty of this season. It helped LSG post a fighting total. After many flop shows, Pant was back in the groove as he raised the tempo towards the end of the innings. Before this match Pant had scored only 40 runs in 6 matches.
This is the second occasion when the home side LSG opted for a red soil surface but they encountered difficulties on the pitch, similar to their previous match where LSG faltered during the first innings against Punjab Kings.
