Why you must carry that heavy glass 'dabba' to work for lunch

Send Push
Considering that we spend anywhere between 8-10 hours in the office, most of us carry at least 1-2 meals to work. It could be breakfast and lunch, or just lunch along with some evening snacks. Unless you are served healthy meals in the office, most of us tend to avoid canteen food, and instead prefer to carry our own meals. However, do you also pack your hot meals in plastic boxes ? Here's why you should ditch the plastic for good, and start carrying glass boxes, even if they are heavy. Here's why...

Healthier for you

Plastic lunch boxes (yes, even the high grade ones) can release harmful chemicals into your food, especially when heated. Chemicals like BPA (Bisphenol A) and phthalates are often found in plastics and can affect your health in the long run. Glass lunch boxes are free from these chemicals, and do not react with food, so your meals stay safe and healthy. A better way to get your plastic boxes is to use it to store roasted snacks, room temperature chapati etc, but never anything that you intend to heat.

Keeps food fresh

Glass is non-porous, which means it does not absorb any smells or stains from food. This makes it a great option for those who eat a lot of eggs, fish etc, that have a strong odour. Plastic lunch boxes can hold on to strong smells like curry or fish, which may mix with other foods. Glass lunch boxes keep your food’s original flavor intact. What's more, glass is easier to clean, unlike plastic that reeks of food even hours later.

Environmentally friendly
Plastic is detrimental for the environment because it takes hundreds of years to break down. Many plastic lunch boxes end up in landfills or oceans, harming animals and nature. Glass lunch boxes are reusable and recyclable. Using a glass lunch box reduces plastic waste and helps protect the planet.

Durable
Glass lunch boxes are strong and can last for many years if handled carefully. They do not get scratched or worn out like plastic boxes. Over time, plastic lunch boxes can crack, warp, or become discolored. Glass keeps its clear look and quality for a long time.

Easy to clean
Glass lunch boxes are easy to clean and do not stain. They can be safely washed in the dishwasher or by hand. (you just have to handle it gently so as to not break it) Plastic lunch boxes can sometimes get sticky or stained, making them harder to clean. Glass also does not hold on to bacteria, making it more hygienic.

Safe for microwave
If you like to heat your food, glass lunch boxes are a great choice. They can be used safely in microwaves and ovens without melting or releasing chemicals. Most plastic lunch boxes are not microwave-safe, and heating food in plastic can be risky.
