As the actress posed for CT lens, Susmita Chatterjee lit up the streets with her smile and glimmer in her eyes. Dressed in the colours of Diwali, the Chengiz actress spoke to us about her Diwali memories, plans and all the bingeing that is going to happen.

‘Kolkata’s kali puja always feels like home’
Reminiscing her childhood Diwali celebrations Susmita added, “I used to light up my house with innumerable number of diyas and candles. Back then, Diwali used to start days before the actual day.”

‘I love the Kali puja pandals in Kolkata’
Away from her hometown, Susmita has been living in Kolkata for work now. While she misses her ghar wali Diwali, the actress has embraced Kolkata as her second home. “I’m away from home but having been in the city for so long, I don’t feel homesick. The city has beautiful Kali Puja pandals which I love. Now Kali Puja means fasting and then offering prayers followed by hogging some street food. Kolkata has become my second home,” she added.

Susmita’s Diwali binge
“Sweets, sweets and just sweets” is how Susmita sums up her Diwali favourites. As someone who is not much into cooking, the Chengiz actress counts on friends and her near and dear ones. “I am a foodie, but I have zero knowledge about cooking. I wait for others to cook and treat me with yummy dishes. Also, I literally wait for my Diwali hampers; those are the little joys of life,” she added.

' As a Bengali girl, this time of the year is not just about Diwali but also the celebration of Kali Puja. It signifies the victory of good over evil'

I’m very fond of animals, so crackers are a big no for me as they cause them distress. Diwali is the festival of lights, so the celebration should reflect that and include everyone

Giving gifts is a big part of Diwali celebrations for me. Hand-picking gifts and making hampers for my loved ones makes me feel close to them. It’s a yearly tradition that I never skip
