Former Playboy model Rachel Kennedy described a disturbing experience she says she had with Sean "Diddy" Combs. According to Kennedy, on the occasion of the now-infamous "Freak Off" party in Tokyo in 2000, the music artist continuously screened a Jennifer Lopez video as he created an atmosphere of discomfort. Kennedy's expose is part of a stream of allegations against Combs, who briefly dated Lopez from 1999 to 2001, receiving wide media attention due to the shooting incident at a New York nightclub involving him.
Recently, Kennedy spoke on Daily Mail's 'The Trial of Diddy' podcast where she spoke of how she and her two friends were invited into Combs' hotel room after meeting him at the topless club in Japan called Seventh Heaven. What they thought was going to be a fun gathering turned out to be so much more than that. "I knew even before we opened that front door that it was just him. My first thought was, 'This is not a party,'" she said.
While Combs had been warm and friendly to her at first, the evening began to take on an increasingly weird and dark edge, she said, describing how she and her friends felt embarrassed but continued attending even as they were made to see more and more unbelievable things happen around them. She stated that, at one point, she was intimate with a friend when one of Combs' bodyguards entered the room fiercely and asked what was going on.
Reports claim that the bodyguard shouted, "That's my girl! That's the girl from last night! What's going on?" while he was trying to push Kennedy and her friend out. Shockingly, Kennedy stated that Combs did not intervene and that he was the "puppet master" allowing such chaos to unfold.
So throughout the whole evening, Kennedy was feeling increasingly uncomfortable, especially when Combs was playing Lopez's videos over and over. As much as she tried to keep things light, she felt that something was really off. "Oh, that's really cool," she said she initially thought, but then quickly figured out that something was going on.
Such allegations are only one example of the trend against Combs. These consist of serious allegations against him concerning misconduct. Kennedy's testimony contributes to continued conversation in light of his growing scrutiny: How does the entertainment industry treat women, and what does society need from the media with regard to accountability?
