Chat GPt’s Studio Ghibli trend has taken social media into a frenzy for the past week, where users are transforming their photos into Hayao Miyazaki’s inspired Ghibli images. Following the trend, many celebrities have also posted the Ghibli version of these images, apart from them, PM Modi also joined this wave, as the Government of India’s official X handle posted images of him in various outfits.
This time what is gaining immense popularity is Sam Altman , the CEO of OpenAI , who also joined the fun and turned his profile picture into a Ghibli-style illustration. However previously, the CEO had taken to X to share that ChatGPT’s GPUs were ‘melting’ and his team needed to ‘sleep’ due to the overload on the AI’s servers as innumerable people were generating Ghibli images following the trend.
In his latest post, Altman shared an image of himself depicted as a cricket player in anime style, holding a bat while donning a jersey with “India” written across the front, “Prompt: Sam Altman as a cricket player in anime style,” he wrote while sharing a photo. This new post from Altman has ignited a wave of reactions on social media, particularly among the desi audience, who quickly began talking about the image.
One user humorously asked, “Is he a better player than Virat Kohli?” Perplexity AI, the chatbot tagged in the conversation, responded with a witty remark, “Hard to say, considering this is just an anime-style depiction and not a real-life comparison! Virat Kohli's cricketing skills are legendary with proven records, so it’s safe to say he’s still the benchmark for greatness on the field.”
The image, where Altman stood as a fictional cricket player, also caught attention due to some mismatched sporting details in the generated image. A few users noticed that the stadium in the background resembled a baseball field rather than a cricket ground, with a baseball clearly visible instead of a cricket ball. One user commented, “The surroundings look like a baseball stadium, and it’s a baseball, not a cricket ball, here in the image created. Quite a basic error if you’re talking about wanting to grow in India!”
One user humorously asked, “Are you Indian?” while another said, “You represent Indian cricket now.” Some also brought up Altman’s earlier posts about the Ghibli-style images. where, he shared writing, “This is insane; our team needs sleep.” He later also posted an upcoming update, saying, "Y’all are not ready for images v2..."
The CEO also posted an AI image of himself with his newborn son, however, these newly posted photos were different because these are anime versions of his uploaded photos.
