Are you looking for a software engineering internship? You’re in luck! Google is inviting applications for its Software Engineering Internship for Summer 2025. This internship program is specifically for PhD students studying in the United States. If you are a PhD student interested in software engineering, don’t miss this opportunity!

According to Google’s official website, interested and eligible candidates can apply for the internship until February 28, 2025. However, Google may close the application link earlier if all available projects are filled. Candidates must be in the United States for the duration of the internship.

This internship is intended for students pursuing a PhD degree in Computer Science or related fields.

How to Apply:

To begin the application process, candidates need to upload an updated CV or resume and a current unofficial or official transcript in English. Under the Google Careers section, locate the ‘Software Engineering Intern, PhD, Summer 2025’ tab and click on ‘Apply.’

In the resume section, attach your updated CV, and in the “Education Section,” upload your current or recent unofficial or official transcript in English. Under “Degree Status,” select “Now attending” to upload the transcript.

Minimum Qualifications:

To apply for the internship, candidates must meet the following minimum qualifications:

  • Pursuing a PhD program with a focus on software development or other technical fields.
  • Experience in software development and coding in one or more of the following languages: C/C++, Java, or Python.
  • Familiarity with data structures or algorithms gained from academic or work experience.
Preferred Qualifications:According to Google’s official website, the following preferred qualifications are also needed:

  • Currently enrolled in a degree program in the US and available to work full-time for 12 weeks outside of university term time.
  • In the penultimate year of their academic program or returning to a degree program after completing the internship.
  • Research experience in algorithms, architecture, artificial intelligence, compilers, databases, data mining, distributed systems, machine learning, networking, or systems.
  • Programming experience in one or more of the following languages: C/C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, Python, Objective-C, Go, or similar.
  • Competencies in data structures, algorithms, and software design.
Key Responsibilities:
The internship will last 12-14 weeks and will be a paid position offering personal and professional development. As a software engineering intern, you will work on a specific project critical to Google’s needs. Key responsibilities include:

  • Creating and supporting a productive and innovative team environment, collaborating with peers, managers, and teams.
  • Developing scripts to automate routine tasks.
  • Analyzing information and evaluating results to choose the best solutions for effectively solving issues.
  • Applying knowledge gained in computer science courses to real-world challenges.
