Kanpur: The police retrieved a body from burning pyre at Siddhnath Ghat in Chakeri area and sent it for post-mortem on Friday after the wife of the deceased lodged a complaint claiming it to be a murder.
A 32-year-old man died under suspicious circumstances and his family members reached Siddhnath Ghat to perform his last rites.
Meanwhile, the wife called the Chakeri police stating that her husband was murdered.
The pyre of the deceased was set afire when Chakeri SO Santosh Shukla arrived there. He extinguished the pyre with water and sent the body for postmortem.
Sohan Lal Dwivedi, 32, lived with his family in Sanigwan, Chakeri and worked as an electrician. His younger brother, Gyani alias Mohan, also lived with them.
Sohan's wife Neelam said that she had gone to her parental home in Bihar during her children's vacation.
On April 9, she received a call informing her of Sohan's death.Shocked upon hearing the news she arrived in Kanpur the next day with her three children and brother Pradeep. Neelam claimed that there were injury marks on Sohan's head. On being asked, her brother-in-law said he did not wake up in the morning.
The SO stated that the body was sent for a post-mortem. "Further action will be based upon the autopsy report and other necessary findings," he said.
