Kanpur: A 65-year-old farmer died in a hit-and-run case that occurred in the Sachendi police station area along the highway on Thursday.
The farmer sustained critical injuries when a speeding vehicle struck him while he was crossing the highway. After getting information from onlookers, the police shifted the injured farmer to the hospital, where the doctors pronounced him dead during treatment.
The deceased, identified as Uma Shankar (65), hailed from Sambalpur village in Sachendi and worked as a farmer. His son Roop Singh said that his father had left home at 10:30 am on Thursday to buy vegetables. Near Baba Market, while crossing the road, a fast-moving vehicle struck him and sped away from the scene. The collision threw his father several metres, resulting in grave head injuries. Bystanders captured photographs of the vehicle and shared them with the authorities. The police transported the victim to LLR Hospital, where he passed away during treatment on Thursday night.
Upon confirmation of the death, police initiated a search for the vehicle's driver. Inspector Sachendi police station Dinesh Singh Bisht said that they would register a case and proceed with appropriate action following the family's formal complaint.
