Criminal held in Kanpur after encounter

Kanpur: A criminal was injured and arrested following an encounter with the police in the Saadh area of Ghatampur late on Thursday night. The criminal, identified as Chandrashekhar alias Nitin of the Bidhnu area of the district, is receiving treatment under police custody.

Police recovered a country-made 315 bore pistol, two cartridges, and stolen electrical wire from the criminal. According to DCP South Deependra Nath Chaudhary, the accused already has over 11 cases of theft and assault registered against him.

DCP Chaudhary said that late at night, Saadh police were conducting checks on the Bhitargaon Dharampur road when two bikes approached from the Dharampur Bamba direction. When police attempted to stop them, the bikers fired at the police jeep and fled. While trying to stop the biker coming from behind, he also fired at the police. In response, the police shot the biker in the leg, causing him to fall. Inspector Avneesh Singh narrowly escaped during this encounter. TNN
