Kanpur: Instructions have been issued to all departments concerned to start and complete the construction work of the 16.25 km long elevated railway track project from Anwarganj to Mandhana within the stipulated time frame.

It is a crucial project to expedite the development of Kanpur and ensure smooth traffic flow in the southern region, said divisional commissioner Vijayendra Pandian during a review meeting held at his camp office on Friday.

The commissioner disclosed that the Railways had completed the tender process.

The tenders would be invited once the government order and land acquisition approval for the Jareeb Chowki bridge is received from the state government.

Pandian informed the officials at the meeting that in the first phase, tenders for the ‘design' for constructing the new Atal Bihari railway station would be opened on April 16. He indicated that after work starts, Kalyanpur and Rawatpur stations would cease operations, thereby alleviating traffic congestion for city residents. The entire project would be accomplished within two years. During this period, rail traffic would operate from Mandhna, while some long-distance trains would be diverted via alternative routes. The district administration was instructed to ensure timely commencement and completion of construction work.

The commissioner directed the formation of an inter-departmental committee to ensure timely relocation of various utilities along the railway track, facilitating Railway cooperation and completing shifting work before construction begins.

He instructed Arvind Meena, project director Kanpur Metro, to devise a plan connecting the new Atal Bihari station with Metro's University and SPM stations via skywalk.

He directed the municipal commissioner and chief engineer, Public Works Department, to form a team for route surveys and action plan preparation. Deputy commissioner traffic Kanpur Development Authority, municipal commissioner Sudheer Kumar, Neeraj Srivastava, Mansi Mittal deputy chief engineer North Eastern Railway, ADM land Acquisition, project director Kanpur Metro and other officials of the departments concerned attended the meeting.
