Guwahati: A suspicious object discovered outside a house in Manipur's Imphal East district early Wednesday sparked tension.
Whilst initially reported as an IED, police clarified that it was neither an IED, nor an explosive device. "There was no explosive. It was merely a suspicious object," a security source confirmed to TOI. The object was discovered outside the main entrance of one Md Iliyas Khan's house in Khergao Makha Leikai at 4 am.
Locals staged a demonstration, alleging it was a scheme to bomb Khan's residence and suspected it was an extortion threat to shut his business establishment.
The previous week, a corroded grenade was discovered at the residence of Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) Imphal director G Sunilkumar Sharma in Imphal East district. tnn
