Ujjain: A man working in the United Kingdom was allegedly duped of Rs 73 lakh under the pretense of securing a tender for a solar street light and pole supply project in Ujjain. The police registered a case against five accused on Thursday after which more victims came forward pointing towards a scam of several crores.
Ujjain's Madhav Nagar police station in-charge Rakesh Bharti said that Jitendra Solanki is working in Edinburgh, UK and often visits his family in residing in Garden City, Indore. In July 2024, he came in contact with Jitendra Rajawat from Indore, Harpal alias Sanjay Singh and his associate Pawan Rao from Ratlam, Faiyaz from Delhi and Ajay. They allegedly promised him of securing a tender for a solar street light and pole supply project with Meghalaya govt, assuring significant profits.
Solanki was convinced and began to understand the tender acquisition process. He was called to Ujjain's Suman Enterprises in Rawal Market Freeganj, where a transaction of approximately Rs 73 lakh took place. As time passed, the accused did not secure the tender for Solanki and started delaying the return of the money. Realising that he was duped, Jitendra filed a complaint with Madhav Nagar police a few days ago.
The police registered a case of fraud against the five accused under BNS sections 318 (4) and 3 (5) on Thursday. The investigation revealed that the accused similarly defrauded other individuals. Following the registration of the case, about four people submitted complaints against the accused, claiming fraud amounting to crores. According to the police, investigations into these cases are also underway. Teams will be dispatched to Indore, Ratlam and Delhi to search for the accused.
