Ahmedabad: The cattle nuisance control department (CNCD) of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation launched a drive on Saturday to impound stray cattle across the city. On the first day, 48 animals were impounded, and 112 illegal cattle sheds were dismantled. Additionally, 35 water connections and 33 drainage connections of houses that kept cattle without the required licences were cut off.
Since Aug 2023, the civic body has imposed a ban on stray cattle in the city. If animals are found to be kept without registration, they are impounded. Furthermore, police complaints are also being filed against those found keeping cattle without proper licences.
Notably, a licence-permit system has been implemented for cattle ownership in the city. Cattle owners who have land must get licences to keep cattle within the city. For this they need to pay Rs 2,000 fee and Rs 500 per animal. The licences are valid for three years. The AMC's cattle policy also has provisions to deal with individuals who obstruct CNCD operations.
