New Delhi: As troops of India and China exchanged sweets at several border points along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) on the occasion of Diwali, Ladakh MP Haji Hanifa Jan said that trusting China is "difficult." He said that while India will adhere to the LAC patrolling arrangement, it is difficult to predict Chinese behaviour. Relations between India and China have improved significantly in the past few days after an agreement on disengagement and patrolling along the LAC. “Yesterday, I was in Demchok, where I met the locals. Trusting China completely is difficult. The Indian Army and our government are sincere in upholding the pact, but China must also adhere to it,” Hanifa told ANI.“Those of us who live near the border, know what war feels like. We desire peace. We welcome the agreement but we want to see it implemented on the ground. Tensions along the border should be reduced through diplomatic means,” the Lok Sabha MP asserted. His statement comes as the Indian and Chinese troops completed the disengagement at two friction points at Demchok and Depsang Plains in eastern Ladakh, bringing a fresh thaw in the Sino-Indian ties. The soldiers also exchanged sweets at five Border Personnel Meeting (BPM) points along the LAC.The disengagement at the two sectors began a few days ago after India announced an agreement with China regarding patrolling along the LAC in eastern Ladakh, ending the over four-year military standoff. mainly involves removing infrastructure and withdrawing troops from both sides.Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri on October 21 said in Delhi that an agreement was finalised between India and China following negotiations over the past several weeks and that it would lead to a resolution of the issues that arose in 2020.The border standoff between India and China, which began in 2020 in eastern Ladakh along the LAC, was triggered by Chinese military actions and led to a prolonged strain on bilateral relations
