Weather maps show the exact date temperatures will fall as low as 4C in parts of the UK in August. The country is currently dealing with its fourth heatwave of the summer as temperatures soar past 30C in many parts of the country. It has been a particularly hot and dry summer in the UK this year, with droughts declared and hosepipe bans put in place for many areas across the country. However, things will change in just a couple of weeks.
The latest weather maps forecast a shift towards the end of August, seeing lower temperatures across the country. It will come as a relief to many as Brits struggle to stay cool in the current heatwave. Maps from WXCharts show 4C in parts of Northern England and Scotland on August 21. The lowest temperatures will be experienced in the early hours of the morning, around 6am, climbing slightly as the day goes on. Areas that are set to be the coldest include Cumbria and Durham in the north of England and areas north of Glasgow and Edinburgh in Scotland.
As the day goes on, temperatures get higher, but will remain in the low to mid teens for the majority of the country. At midday, it could still be as cold as 4C in parts of Scotland and 7C in many parts of England.
The warmest areas will be around London, where it could reach 12C at midday. By 6pm, temperatures are expected to peak at around 16C in England and Wales.
Similar conditions are expected for the days following August 21, with 4C expected in more parts of England, Wales and Scotland. After that, temperatures are not expected to reach 20 °C or above until August 25.
The Met Office says that high pressure is likely to be replaced by low pressure, which will lead to "an increasing possibility of stronger winds and rain, some of which could be heavy and thundery, especially for southern and western areas, but this perhaps becoming more widespread with time".
The forecast for the end of August into the beginning of September reads: "Overall, unsettled conditions with showers or longer spells of rain are expected to be most prevalent.
"Some heavy and thundery rain is possible at times with a risk of strong winds. Interspersed with this are likely to be some transient periods of drier and more settled weather."
