Some residents living outside of the reach can find commuting a challenge.
While it's understandable that the network of the underground, known as the Tube, can't extend across the entire country, certain commuter towns seem underserved without their own station.
As property prices and rental costs in London continue to climb, many people are choosing to move farther out, leading to a growing demand for stronger transport links in these commuter areas.
Express.co.uk took a look at the major towns and cities near London without a London Underground station.
Gerrards CrossGerrards Cross is a town and civil parish in south Buckinghamshire located just over 26 miles from Central London. The nearest Tube station, Uxbridge, is about a 10-minute drive or 14-minute train journey away and marks the end of both the Metropolitan and Piccadilly lines.
BorehamwoodSimilarly, Borehamwood, a North London town near Watford, doesn't have a Tube station.
With over 36,000 residents in the London commuter belt, locals are limited to Thameslink services for their trips into central London, while nearby Watford and High Barnet have direct Tube access.
Potters BarNot far from Borehamwood is Potters Bar, another Hertfordshire commuter town just 13 miles north of Central London. Here too, commuters depend on Thameslink - but there is the possibility that an extension of the Northern line from High Barnet could streamline their journeys significantly.
BroxbourneWithout its own Tube stop, commuters rely on the London Overground in Cheshunt or face a mainline train journey to Tottenham before transferring to reach London.
StainesStaines, meanwhile, would also benefit from an extension of the District line to Richmond, which could connect Twickenham and Feltham, offering thousands of residents simpler access to the city.
St AlbansSt Albans-often hailed as one of the top commuter towns for London-also lacks a Tube station. Although home to a significant population and admired for its charm, residents are left relying on trains or cars to make their way into the city.
