The is famous as much for its star residents as it is for its beautiful scenery. Home to Blenheim Palace and a number of luxury hotels and spas, the area is also the setting for Christmas classic movie The Holiday, starring Jude Law and Kate Winslet.
In real life, celebrity residents include presenter Ellen DeGeneres, Oasis singer and former Top Gear and The Grand Tour host Jeremy Clarkson. But now a number of these celebrities are leaving the Cotswolds behind in favour of other gorgeous English regions.
Ellen DeGeneres and spouse Portia de Rossi had been living in a £15 million historic farmhouse but were hit by flooding in the area and unrest among neighbours over work carried out on the property. Now the host is reportedly planning to leave her Cotswolds mansion in favour of a quieter life.
As he prepares to reunite with brother Noel for sold-out concerts this summer, Liam Gallagher is also thought to have become fed up with life in Gloucestershire, favouring a move back to north London.
For those not on the celebrity A-list, the area might also be a financial stretch. According to Rightmove, the average house price in the Cotswolds over the last year was £447,193, compared to the national average of around £270,000, based on government data. As a location instantly recognisable to many, the Cotswolds is also a huge draw for tourists, with around 35 million a year drawn to visit.
So where are the stars heading as they leave these quaint English streets? The Somerset town of Bruton has been named "the new Notting Hill" by British Vogue and was described by the Telegraph as "an established favourite" with a range of celebrity residents.
From James Bond frontrunner and his film director wife Sam to fashion designers Alice Temperley and Pearl Lowe, Bruton has a strong repertoire of star residents. Theatre producer Sir Cameron Mackintosh lives in a former Augustinian Priory in the town, according to the Telegraph, under 20 miles from Glastonbury.
On the Visit Somerset website, the town is described as one of the county's "local centres of creativity, punching far above its weight". Linked with London by rail and the A303, Bruton is "surprisingly cosmopolitan" and is reportedly a hub for parties and barbecues thrown by locals through the summer.
Another new favourite among stars is Northamptonshire, which has been named "the Notswolds" and described by writer Alan Moore as the "nation's best kept secret". Famous faces include German model Claudia Schiffer and Spice Girl Geri Horner, with husband and Mercedes F1 principal Christian. Northamptonshire is a favourite of the British motoring scene, with the Silverstone track located in the county.
It also has a larger concentration of stately homes than any other county, and is dubbed the "county of Spires and Squires" on the Visit Northamptonshire website. The area boasts a strong rugby team and an equally solid pub offering, including the Tollemache Arms in Harrington, recently voted the best in the country.
A third location vying for ex-Cotswolds business is Norfolk, famously home to Steve Coogan character Alan Partridge. In real life, the county is home to writer and actor Stephen Fry and American travel author Bill Bryson, as well as Irish actress Jessie Buckley.
Television personality Janet Street-Porter described her home near Norwich as being "exactly like The Archers", while nearby Holt was rated one of the 15 "poshest towns in England" by the Telegraph. A short journey from these areas are the seaside spots of Cromer and Holkham, offering something extra for A-list guests.
