Rory McIroy is now officially a golf and sporting legend.

If he wasn't already widely considered so, the northern Irishman has now put the debate beyond all doubt after entering the Pantheon of gofling greats and become only the sixth mens player ever to complete the career grand slam.

After winning the Masters at Augusta, following a nail-biting play-off with Justin Rose, McIlroy has now won each of golf's four majors - along with the Open, the US Open and the PGA Championship.

The 35-year-old returns to action this week when he links up with his good friend and fellow major winner Shane Lowry, to feature alongside each other in the Zurich classic; a PGA Tour event in which the duo were victoriousd last year, and now return as defending champions.

All eyes will be on McIlroy, who is playing arguably the best and most complete golf of his already storied career.

A full field of envious fellow pros will be watching McIlroy closely, as will the millions of golf fans and aspiring players around the globe.

But - aside from a God-given talent - McIlroy also has one major advantage over the everyday golfer; every club in his bag is fitted to his exact specifications, to the most minute level.

That is according to Lewis Baker, custom fitting expert at , who believes McIlroy uses his tools to the ultimate advantage.

The club fitting guru has given his verdict on how more golfers can benefit from a process which reaps rewards for the pros.

"Most players buy clubs off the rack without realising that standard sizes don't suit everyone," says Baker.

"You wouldn't wear shoes two sizes too big and expect to run your best race - so why play with clubs that aren't made for your game?

"A custom fit is like a personal MOT for your golf game - it's a six-step process that makes sure every club is built for just you. Starting with a consultation and static measurements, we then help match you with a model and shaft selection, final steps and even a grip choice.

"By doing this, you can shave up to six shots off your round, especially with a full bag fit."

McIlroy and all tour pros benefit from constant fitting and measurement, as their bodies change and swing alterations come into play. On his way to Augusta glory, McIlroy utilised arguably the most crucial weapon he personally boasts in his bag; the driver.

McIlroy is revered as one of the longest hitters in the game, using the big stick which most amateur and recreational players undervalue.

Baker adds: "With a properly fitted driver, bad shots become better and most golfers gain up to 10 yards in distance and 20% more accuracy off the tee. That's a huge difference to your score and your confidence.

"Every golfer is unique, and that's why custom fitting matters. We're not here to sell you clubs; we're here to find the ones that fit you - and we'll do it for free."

McIlroy will next get chance to fight for another major when the PGA Championship rolls around, in just over three weeks time.

The tournament will take place at Quail Hollow, a course on which McIlroy has tasted success on multiple occasions. The golf icon has triumphed four times previously at the iconic Charlotte golf course, taking the Quail Hollow Championship in 2010 and also winning the Wells Fargo PGA Tour event at the venue three times - in 2015, 2021 and 2024.
