Backed by a major credit card, some years ago I enjoyed the privilege of interviewing the winning England rugby coach Sir Clive Woodward and his story of how even he wasn't sure how one of his players, flanker Lewis Moody, pulled off what he did to help his team win the World Cup at a crucial moment in the game won over the entire audience.
Having been fortunate to watch England teams at Twickenham for more than two decades, I can say Moody, 47, was a player the fans adored and cheered to the echo when he arrived on the pitch.
The news that he has been diagnosed with motor neurone disease is horrific for the entire sporting world, but particularly for his devoted family. This is a man who never gave anything less than his best: and let's all support him to face this latest challenge with the same resolve.

Farewell Dame Jilly Cooper. For all her monumental sales down the decades and unrivalled standing in society, she's likely to be forever known as the 'Queen of the Bonkbuster.'
And the gentle chuckling you can hear from on high is her modest appreciation.

As a giggling schoolboy, we'd laugh about how Lord Nelson's famous quote "Kiss me Hardy" as he lay dying meant he was secretly homosexual. Now a supposedly reputable art gallery has taken up the claim. Time to cast adrift this confected garbage.
