Code of Silence viewers were left frustrated after a "ridiculous" plot twist on Monday (May 19).
Created by Hijack's Catherine Moulton, the six-part series sees Strictly Come Dancing star Rose Ayling-Ellis in the lead role of Alison Woods, a deaf worker who has spent years working in a police canteen.
Alison's life is turned upside down when her lip-reading skills catch the attention of DS Ashleigh Francis (Charlotte Ritchie) and DI James Marsh (Andrew Buchan).
The detectives recruit Alison for a covert operation in which she must monitor a dangerous gang who are plotting a high-stakes heist.
The character's hearing loss is central to the story, offering rare on-screen representation of deafness in a primetime drama.
The drama premiered on Sunday (May 18), and saw Alison get swept into the thick of police intrigue, as she navigated hidden dangers while infiltrating the criminal gang, reports .
During the second episode on Monday night, DI Marsh was left stunned after learning about Alison's unexpected link to the case.
"You've risked the entire operation.. I should arrest you, I should arrest you for misconduct," he declared.
"I don't want your help, I don't want anything from you. It's not safe for you to be anywhere near this station."
Elsewhere, Alison found herself increasingly entangled with Liam Barlow (Kieron Moore), one of the main suspects in the gang case.

Alison's choice to entertain Liam's advances on the show has sparked outrage among viewers, prompting them to voice their discontent on X (formerly Twitter).
One viewer expressed their frustration, stating: "This is a frustrating watch," while another was on edge, commenting: "I'm on tenterhooks over here. What's she playing at?"
A third chimed in with concern: "Alison doesn't know what she's getting herself into," and another said: "I've really tried but I'm just not feeling it... next."
A fifth fan echoed the sentiment, saying: "It's both great and totally f****** ridiculous at the same time."
