The worst kept secret in television is finally out as the line up for I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here 2025 has been confirmed. There wasn't a single surprise in the line up due to leaks but for once I was hoping the rumours were way off the mark as it is the least impressive line up in eons. As a showbiz and TV writer I have been covering the show for years and they have absolutely struck gold with some of their signings in recent times. I was sceptical when Matt Hancock was announced but watching him get tortured doing the infamous vile tasks was unbelievably entertaining. Nigel Farage also proved a winner. He created contention within the camp and proved hugely watchable. Bringing Princess Diana's former butler Paul Burrell back for the All Stars version in 2023 proved to be TV gold.
As Celebrity Traitors recently proved with it's iconic casting there has to be conflict and tension (and some Alan Carr style backstabbing doesn't go amiss either!) in order to make good television. You also need a good mix of personalities. Sadly the stars heading to the jungle this year seem more likely to sit around the camp fire having cups of tea and patting each other on the back while desperately trying to promote themselves to brands and producers rather than creating drama. They all either plainly have an agenda or are just so... nice. And it will make for very boring TV.
Take Spandau Ballet icon Martin Kemp. While many 80s popstars spent the decade partying hard and indulging in some questionable pastimes, he was loved up with his now wife Shirlie. There will be no salacious revelations such as there were when his 80s contemporary Boy George shared details of his time in prison with the campmates in 2022. Indeed Martin is generally considered an all round lovely bloke - great for those who know him, not so good for television though.
I can see Tom Read Wilson being an early departure once the reality of jungle life sets in. Prior to that he is likely to try and capitalise on his "agony uncle" reputation and counsel his fellow campmates as if they were appearing on his show Celebs Go Dating. He is another is obviously angling for his own presenting gig so is unlikely to say or do anything to jeopardise the end goal.
Vogue Williams is about as interesting as watching paint dry during her appearances on Lorraine so I can't see her suddenly developing a personality just because she is in the jungle. She is obviously only in there to land a more exciting "collabroator" than a laundry detergent and won't want to do anything to upset her "brand."
Ditto Kelly Brook and Alex Scott. Kelly currently presents a show on Heart radio but it's painfully obvious she sees herself as destined for her own TV show given the Insta content she creates. She is unlikely to want to rock the boat with some huge potential contracts at stake. The same is true of Alex Scott. She is a regular on screens thanks to her football punditry and The One Show and can't risk ruining her impartitial "nice" image due to jungle conflict - which will make for a very boring watch.
Former EastEnders star Shona McGarty hasn't exactly been setting the entertainment world on fire since leaving the BBC soap. She will no doubt be looking for a career resurgence from the show and given that she has done some musical theatre expect her to break into song at every opportunity in the hopes of catching a casting directors eye. I'm already bored just thinking about it.
Eddie Kadi will surely be angling to sell himself in a similar way - but telling jokes rather than singing. Having a literal captive audience such as the I'm A Celeb campmates is a comedians dream - but tedious for viewers. Although I can see Aitch and Angry Ginge teaming up with him as they all try and bring the "lad" element to the show no doubt hoping to score a travelogue when they are back in the real world.
I think Emmerdale's Lisa Riley will come across very well. She is warm and bubbly in real life and will probably take on a mother role in the camp. While this may sound delightful it's not exactly entertaining to watch. She's clearly just there to tick the soap star box and will probably end up totally overshadowed by the desperate campmates trying to further their careers.
The only two I have any real hope for are funnywoman Ruby Wax and presenter Jack Osbourne. Neither seems to have an agenda for being there (other than the payday of course) and are loud and boisterous characters. Both are also known to hold strong opinions and haven't been afraid to engage in arguments in the past. But two shouty opinionated characters simply aren't enough to keep viewers glued to screens for a fortnight. This is shaping up to be the most boring season ever.
