Firefighters were called to attend a major blaze at a recycling yard in Ilkeston. Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service said in a statement on Thursday morning: "We are currently dealing with a fire at a recycling yard on Griffin Road in Ilkeston. Please avoid the area while emergency services deal with the incident."
Locals living near the Ward Recycling site, a metal and waste management centre, have been urged to keep their doors and windows closed, they added. The statement read: "Due to smoke from the fire, please keep windows and doors closed in the area." This afternoon, the force said they were expecting to remain at the scene of the fire into "the early evening".
