Horror as 19-year-old stabbed to death in car park with suspect on the loose

A 19-year-old had died after they were stabbed in a "tragic and upsetting incident", with the suspect still at large. The teenager was fatally attacked just before 9pm on August 1 in a car park next to a Powerleague complex on Market Street in Bury, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said.

He sustained several stab wounds and later died from his injuries. No arrests have yet been made in what police believe was a "targeted attack" and officers have appealed for any witnesses to contact them. A murder investiagation has been launched.

A scene is now in place at the Powerleague football complex in Bury, next to Bury College off Market Street, close to the town centre.

A Powerleague spokesperson wrote on Facebook: "Due to unforeseen circumstances the Bury club will be closed today."

Crime scene specialists have been spotted within the complex taking photographs as part of the ongoing investigation.

Detective Chief Inspector John Charlton, from GMP, said specially trained officers are supporting the victim's family after the "tragic and upsetting incident".

He added that the force are "determined to bring the family the answers they deserve".

He said: "This incident will have shocked the community and distressed anyone who witnessed it, but we believe this was a targeted attack with no wider threat.

"We have several scenes in place with the investigation ongoing in order to identify and apprehend the offenders responsible.

"There will be officers in the area today and in the coming days as we are determined to bring the family the answers they deserve."
