Manchester United legend Gary Neville stood firm on his view of Leeds United supporters following his Sky Sports blunder. The cameras were positioned at Elland Road on Monday evening for the Whites' return to the Premier League as they faced Everton.
Neville and Liverpool icon Jamie Carragher were assigned to dissect the weekend's matches whilst also examining Daniel Farke's squad ahead of their top-flight opener. Nevertheless, the pundit found himself red-faced after miscalculating the duration of an advert break, with the programme returning unexpectedly early.
Footage shows a close-up of a group of Leeds supporters before the match but unbeknownst to Neville, the cameras were broadcasting live and he can be overheard declaring: "That's one group of fans I wouldn't want to go near."
Dave Jones, presenting, tried to alert his co-presenter that they were on air but it failed to prevent the panel from chuckling at the mishap. He stepped in: "I do have to apologise."
Neville showed no fear of further provoking Leeds supporters when he reinforced his stance, adding: "One group of fans I wouldn't go anywhere near."
Before Jones remarked: "I don't think they want you anywhere near, it's fine. They have been looking forward to this."
Leeds made an impressive start against Everton with the Toffees restricted to virtually no chances during the first half. The hosts dominated the corner statistics and put Jordan Pickford's goal under pressure but they rarely tested the English stopper.
They went on to secure a narrow victory with debutant Lukas Nmecha scoring from the penalty spot after Everton defender James Tarkowski was deemed to have handled the ball.
Ahead of the match, Leeds chief Paraag Marathe expressed his enthusiasm: "I want to tell you all I'm very excited to run it back with Daniel.
"I'm really excited about collaborating with Daniel, with Robbie Evans, with Adam Underwood and, together, we are going to build the best squad we can with every penny we're allowed to spend to compete in the Premier League.
"I'm under no illusions it's going to be easy. I know all the stats. Last season's three promoted clubs went right back down. Two years ago, three promoted clubs went right back down, but we have something they don't."
