Gardener advises one tip most of us never bother doing - 'what a revelation!'

Turns out, one simple tip when it comes to a gardener's most important tool will ensure no shredding of grass in your garden, but rather instead, a nice, clean cut takes place allowing for more effortlessness. In fact, so important is this tip, many who don't regularly do it could face a garden that's more susceptible to diseases and pests.

Fortunately, the genius and very simple tip was shared on social media when a user admitted that by just sharpening your blades it makes "a massive difference" and resulted in less "swearing at my lawnmower". Unsharpened lawnmower blades can lead to a host of problems and issues, including a frayed appearance of the grass, a torn, increased stress on the mower, and even a weakened or diseased lawn if not careful.

Additionally, your lawnmower may struggle to perform its essential duties as having dull blades, means more time sweating in the sunshine achieving very little as you attempt to tame your grass. The Reddit user captioned his "revelation" and posted: "After years of painfully cutting my lawn and swearing at my lawnmower, I got the blade sharpened." "Never realised this was a thing until recently and it made a massive difference. So, a tip for all the non-gardener garden owners, get the lawnmower blade sharpened."

He added how this "revelation" of blade sharpening is also easier than many realise adding that "any locksmith can do it." The admittance that a simple tip of sharpening your lawnmower's blades truly does make all the difference saw a host of responses and added tips.

"Same with smaller garden tools," commented one user adding how "secateurs with sharp blades cut rather than crush stems.

"You can take the blades off and use a kitchen knife sharpener. I also give the hedge trimmer a squirt of GT 85 before and after each use."

Another Reddit user added: "I have 2 lawns both about 10 feet square, an old mower someone gave me that doesn't collect anything, has blunt blades and the handle keeps falling out, takes me about an hour to do the two."

With one replying: "Get sharpening. It cost me 5er to get it done by a locksmith. And it sounds like if you have the kit it's easy to do yourself too."

In terms of sharpening your lawnmower blades yourself, another user further advised: "I take my blade off and sharpen it a couple times a year.

"I've got a bench grinder but it's really easy to do with some simple tools. You just need the right size spanner/socket for getting the blade off and a relatively coarse file."

One Reddit user wrote: "If it's a rotary mower, you need to get the blade's balance checked and corrected after sharpening too. Doesn't matter with cylinder mowers."

With another further advising: "A cylinder mower requires a great deal more maintenance and checking if the bottom blade is striking against the cylinder evenly. Easy to have one side cut lower than the other versus a rotary."
