EastEnders star promises 'fireworks' as iconic couple 'set to reunite' after shock kiss

Send Push

legend Shane Richie has teased a reunion between Alfie Moon and Kat Slater as they find themselves in each other's arms once more next week.

Kat, played by Jessie Wallace, is distraught ahead of the social services meeting concerning Tommy Moon (Sonny Kendall) and continues to ignore Stacey (Lacey Turner) and Jean Slater (Gillian Wright). Alfie pleads with Stacey for peace and spins a tale to arrange a meeting between Kat and the Slaters at The Vic.

Upon her arrival, Kat is livid at being tricked, but Alfie delivers a heartfelt plea and they make amends. After Kat expresses her gratitude to Alfie, Freddie Slater (Bobby Brazier) comments on their palpable chemistry, leading Alfie to confess his lingering feelings for Kat.

Following a challenging morning at the flat, Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt) offers Alfie some guidance on handling the delicate situation with Kat. At the social services meeting, Kat is heartbroken by Tommy's coldness towards her and worries they may never regain custody of their son.

However, the social worker suggests they can start working towards bringing Tommy home. Alfie assures the social worker of their desperate wish to have Tommy home for Christmas and even manages to connect with their son slightly, ending the session on an upbeat note.

Back at the flat, a thankful Kat surprises Alfie with a kiss. Discussing the surprise kiss, Shane revealed: "Alfie didn't see it coming at all! When they get back, he can see Kat is a bit gooey-eyed, but he isn't quite sure what that's all about. He had no idea because Kat had been reminding him for weeks that they were just friends, and she had no feelings for him.

"Alfie's resigned himself to this and that they'll just be living together as parents and bringing up the kids together as friends. But then Kat kisses him, and she kisses him in the way Kat kisses Alfie in the way she would have done back in the day, and it totally upends Alfie's world."

People always want to know if they are getting back together. There's a whole generation of people who were in their late teens when Kat and Alfie first got together and are now in their 40s.

"They grew up with Kat and Alfie being the go-to couple, and now they are in their 40s. They might have found their own Kat or Alfie and are excited that this great love story is rearing its head again.

I just say, 'Watch this space because there will be fireworks'".
