Coronation Street fans could be in for a shock as the soap may have hinted at an unexpected murder suspect following Joel Deering's death.

It appears that someone closely linked to the investigation might be the real killer, attempting to pin the blame on another character. Joel was found dead last month, his body discovered in a river after an attack. But who is the murderer?

Several characters are under suspicion, including DS Swain, Ed and Ronnie Bailey, Dee-Dee Bailey, and even Carla Connor. However, could the actual culprit be someone else entirely?

In tonight's episode, Ryan retrieves a police file left by Kit at the Rovers Return bar. During their conversation, Kit jokingly warns Ryan he would have had to arrest him if he'd looked inside the file.

The discussion then shifted to Ryan's ex-girlfriend Daisy, with Ryan confessing he's not over her yet. Kit comforted him, saying it takes time to heal, especially considering what they've been through together.

Ryan admits he still misses her, to which Kit advises him not to dwell on it and suggests they go out for a drink later. With hints that Kit might be interested in Daisy, could he be planning to permanently remove Ryan from the picture?

After all, a jail sentence is a surefire way to eliminate competition. Could Kit be behind Joel's murder, now trying to frame Ryan to clear his path to Daisy?

Jacob Roberts, who portrays Kit on the show, has intriguingly hinted at his character's enigmatic backstory in a chat with The Mirror.

"I'm enjoying that you don't know too much about him at the moment. That mystery there, he's an independent character. He doesn't rely on anyone else. I would quite like to keep it that way for as long as possible before you find out why he is the way he is," he revealed.

"I think he has a bad side, but I don't think he is quite a villain but I'll let the audience be the judge that one. He does things and justifies them like with the Nathan stuff. He thought he was getting another bad person off the street. We don't know if he's capable of murder or if he's totally innocent. That sort of stuff is always nice to know but I don't even know what's coming up!"

He added: "I just like this naughty side where he can get away with it, and if we can keep going with that, the blackmail, the people in his pockets, that would be great."

As the storyline thickens, viewers are left wondering whether Kit will ultimately be pegged as a suspect.

*Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
