Bruno Fernandes has expressed his feelings as Manchester United wave farewell to Victor Lindelof and Christian Eriksen. Earlier this month, the Reds announced that Lindelof, Eriksen, along with Jonny Evans, would be parting ways with the club after their contracts end on 30 June. United's youth prospects, including Hubert Graczyk, Tom Wooster, Tom Myles, James Nolan, Sam Murray, and Jack Kingdon, are also set to leave the club by the end of the month.
Meanwhile, goalkeeper Tom Heaton's current contract expires next Monday, though there have been conversations about prolonging his tenure at Old Trafford. Lindelof joined United from Benfica back in 2017 for a £30million fee plus additional bonuses. Despite limited playing time during his first season, Lindelof became an integral member of the United squad thereafter.
He made over 35 appearances in five consecutive seasons leading up to the 2023/24 campaign. However, last season saw Lindelof taking to the pitch in only 25 games under managers Erik ten Hag, Ruud van Nistelrooy, and Ruben Amorim, prompting United to let him go once his contract concluded.
Lindelof leaves behind a legacy of 284 appearances for United, along with successes in the FA Cup, Carabao Cup, and Europa League.
A touching farewell to Lindelof was posted on United's Instagram, stating: "From that first day at Carrington in 2017 to that final game at Old Trafford in 2025 - thank you for everything, Victor [red love heart emoji]."
Reacting to United's sentimental post, Fernandes, who has been team-mates with Lindelof since his 2020 arrival at M16, reposted the tribute with a smiling face with tear emoji on his Instagram story.
Eriksen arrived at United in 2022 as a free agent from Brentford, where he had made an impact after recovering from a Euro 2020 cardiac arrest incident.
Eriksen's influence was pivotal as United lifted the Carabao Cup in 2023, and he played a significant role in their FA Cup victory over Manchester City later. He donned the United shirt 107 times.
United also bid adieu to Eriksen with a heartfelt message stating: "A final farewell from Christian [pleading face emoji and red love heart emoji]."
Adding his personal touch, Fernandes displayed United's post on his Instagram tale along with a magic hat emoji.
The departures of Lindelof and Eriksen signal the likely exit of several other players from United this summer, with Marcus Rashford, Antony, and Jadon Sancho all potential leavers following stints on loan last season.
