BBC Gardeners' World fans all make the same demand as Monty Don returns

BBC fans who tuned into the latest episode of Gardeners' World all made the same demand after a report from a project in Manchester transformed urban spaces into a haven bursting with wildlife. During the episode, host Monty Don began work on his brand-new woodland garden at Longmeadow. It then focused on a volunteer-managed city centre green space, which left BBC viewers totally delighted and they took to social media to voice their reaction. One person typed on X: "What a lovely patch. Would love to see this happen countrywide. Involve locals, gives them a stake in the locality and helps nature, and nurture." Another also typed: "Well done, ladies and gentlemen! I absolutely love a palette of different shades of green. That's fab."

A third also commented: "Those Manchester gardens are right in the centre. (Next to the Pete Saville road signs). It's great. Like Barcelona. More like this please. #GardenersWorld."

Elsewhere, Advolly Richmond delved into the history of Gertrude Jekyll, one of the most influential garden designers of the 20th century. Carol Klein also revelled in some dazzling displays at RHS Rosemoor in Devon.

Horticulturist and broadcaster Monty Don has been a mainstay on the BBC Two programme since 2003, having taken only one break from 2008 to 2011.

Alongside his dogs, Ned and Patti, the icon has since continued to make his weekly return to screens with fresh ideas and tips for his fans.

Before he discovered his passion for plants and flowers, his career took him down a very different route. He mingled with A-list celebrities and even royalty.

In the 1980s, Monty and his wife, Sarah Erskine, owned a jewellery shop called Monty Don Jewellery. The store mainly sold costume jewellery, reports the Mirror.

Their customers reportedly included major celebs such as Boy George and Michael Jackson, and even Princess Diana was rumoured to be a customer. However, their fortunes took a turn for the worse following the 1987 Wall Street financial crash, and the couple lost everything.

In their joint 2004 autobiography, Monty discussed their bankruptcy, saying the couple felt "like lambs to the slaughter" when their luck changed, and they were forced to sell "every stick of furniture" they owned at Leominster Market.
