Former Manchester United star isn't a fan of Ruben Amorim's approach of playing a weakened side for Premier League matches while chasing European glory. Amorim made major changes to the starting XI for , including leaving captain on the bench, in order to keep players fresh to face Athletic Club on Thursday.
United lost 4-3 at the Gtech and then fell behind early on in their semi-final second leg. They rebounded in style, though, , but Scholes believes his old employers are taking a big risk.
" should be able to play in two or three competitions at once without sacrificing something, and they’ve clearly sacrificed the league," the 50-year-old wrote for . "I don’t like it and I don’t agree with it and I believe there has to be some sort of standards required in a team.
"It’s almost as if they go into Premier League games and there’s an acceptance that they’re not going to win the game, which is madness. I think the acceptance has come from everyone.
"I think it’s come from the manager even though he won’t admit it. He’s not playing teams to win games of football in the league. I think even fans are thinking let’s get these league games out of the way because the league has been a disaster."

United aren't the only ones who have attempted to shuffle the pack in the league while competing in Europe. It didn't quite work for , who lost their semi-final against Paris Saint-Germain, but Spurs' rotation at last week left them fresh to beat Bodo/Glimt and join Amorim's team in the Europa League final.
That final will take place on May 21, with two rounds of Premier League fixtures to come before then. United host West Ham this Sunday before travelling to on Sunday night, and have a Premier League closer against four days after the final.

Ahead of Sunday's match, Amorim was asked whether he would continue resting senior stars now that a spot in the final has been secured. "No, they will play because sometimes it's better to play," he replied.
"What I will protect is the players that can get an injury. For example, Bruno, or the last game before but we moved the game to the Friday against Chelsea. So we'll have time to recover.
"We want to win and to be competitive, also in the Premier League. Bruno doesn't have the problem of any injury [touches wood] but Harry [Maguire] has. So we have to manage that but they have to play and it is better to play than to stay out."
