A jealous boyfriend was caught on CCTV slicing a piece of a man's ear off after spotting him dancing with his girlfriend at a birthday celebration in Newport, South Wales.
Beau Lyons, 27, flew into a rage during a 'mini bar crawl' with partner Shaunnia Connolly and a friend before the attack in March. The victim, Shane Edwards, was left badly injured after Lyons smashed a glass into the side of his face, leaving him "looking like something from Star Wars", a court heard.
Lyons travelled from his home in Flintshire to Newport with Connolly and her friend to celebrate a birthday. Upon arriving in Newport, they checked into their hotel, had a meal and attended Mojo's nightclub at around 11pm.

There had been a minor argument between the defendant and Ms Connolly before Lyons is seen talking with a friend near the bar. Edwards had also been out drinking with a friend at Mojos nightclub.
Prosecutor Nuhu Gobir told Newport Crown Court Lyons had already argued with Connolly before the attack. CCTV showed Edwards dancing with Connolly and buying her a drink shortly before Lyons launched at him.
Lyons grabbed a glass and slashed Edwards’ left ear, then threw him into a table. Edwards was rushed to Grange University Hospital, where doctors found a 5cm wound slicing through all layers of his ear, exposing cartilage and splitting the ear in two.
The next thing he remembered was waking up in hospital and being covered in blood from his chest downwards.
Lyons admitted assault but claimed no memory of the attack and apologised. He pleaded guilty to wounding with intent and possession of an offensive weapon.
In a victim personal statement, Edwards described the lasting impact: "I feel deformed. I’ve had anxiety, nightmares, and trouble sleeping. My confidence is shot because of comments strangers have made about my ear. It leaks, gets infected, and I struggle to hear out of it."
Judge Eugene Egan said: "You launched yourself at the victim and brought the glass crashing down on his ear. You were under the influence of alcohol and cocaine."
Lyons was sentenced to three years in prison.
